Going carbon neutral

It is the goal of Etrilum to become a carbon neutral organization, to be a zero carbon footprint company.  What does that mean?  It means we aim to conduct our business with responsibility for releasing the least amount of CO2 into the atmosphere through our collective actions.

How do we know what our carbon footprint is?  We keep track of every plane, train, taxi, bus, metro, boat or motorcyle (well, not that last one) that we use to conduct business.  We measure the distance we have travelled on these various modes of transport on a monthly and annual basis and convert that into an amount in CO2.  We record how much electricity our office uses, where it comes from and what it equals in CO2 emissions.

How do we achieve a zero carbon footprint?  We video conference with customers on Skype.  We schedule our travel better.  We reduce our travel.  We plan to plant trees, lots of trees.  Every year we will board a train and travel to a location (Inner Mongolia) that requires trees and we will plant some.
